I’m Makaio Brown, a photographer driven by curiosity about the natural world and our place within it. With a background in Photography and Environmental Studies from Drexel University’s Westphal College of Media Arts and Design, my work is grounded in an understanding of the deep interconnectedness between wildlife, environments, and people.
My passion for photography began in high school, where I spent countless hours exploring local parks and forests. Birds, being the most abundant wildlife around me, became my first subjects and taught me patience, observation, and attention to detail.
That early curiosity eventually led me to Philadelphia to study photography, where I also discovered a love for journalism. I became drawn to documenting moments and creating visual stories that inform and engage viewers. Pairing this with a minor in Environmental Studies allowed me to better understand the politics and science behind the subjects I photograph.
From intimate portraits of animals to long form projects exploring the relationships between humans and wildlife, my goal is to create photographs that inspire both wonder and reflection.
